The Toledo City Council announces five new projects to improve public lighting in various parts of the city.

The Toledo City Council has announced the next measures that the council will undertake in terms of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Specifically, 255,000 euros will be invested in five projects to improve public lighting in different parts of the city.

"We want to move forward in a sustainable city, as you know in the last legislature, 30 percent of energy consumption was saved and we reduced CO2 emissions, which meant an economic saving of 1 million euros in energy," explained the mayor of Toledo, Milagros Toulon, to mark the objectives of these four new years of mandate. “We will continue in this line in order to save the people of Toledo and Toledo about 250,000 euros a year on the electricity bill.

The projects will be carried out in the coming months and pursue, in addition to improving street lighting, provide greater security to pedestrians at different points of the road in the vicinity of schools and in those where visibility deficiencies have been detected for the pedestrian

In this regard, the mayor explained that the following crosswalks will be illuminated with an investment of 50,000 euros. The passage located in the Paseo de Recaredo with the Puerta del Cambrón, that of the Puerta del Cambrón with Casa Pedro, the one located in the Paseo de Cabestreros next to the San Lucas College, at number 160 of the German street, in this same way at the height of the Colegio Europa, also on the Belgium street next to this educational center, and on the Río Espinarejo street with the Paseo Río Puente Secas, as well as on the Rio Boladiez avenue at the height of the Alberto Sánchez School.

Other pedestrian crossings included in this investment to improve urban lighting, safety and energy efficiency of Toledo are located on Corpus Christi Street next to the roundabout of Zaragoza Street, on La Legua Avenue with Francisco Villalpando, in Río Sagreda street in the area of ​​contact with Luz del Tajo next to the bus stop, on Carlos III Avenue in the area of ​​the roundabout of the Camino del Molinero direction UCLM and San Pedro el Verde, and finally at number 24 of the Buenavista Round.

"30 specific LED light points are going to be installed for pedestrian crossings and with these there will already be 71 pedestrian crossings illuminated since 2018," Milagros Tolón said, to advance that on the Río Alberche del Polígono street, regulated traffic lights will be installed for provide greater security to this road, one of the most conflictive in the city in terms of safety for pedestrians.
