The City Council of Tarragona is completing the change of 285 street lamps in the city center, tasks that are part of the plan to improve public lighting in Tarragona.

The streets of the Sea, Steam to Plaça dels Infants and Castellarnau were the first to replace their lamps with LED technology.

Now, the improvement tasks have been extended to Francesc Bastos, Mallorca and yesterday began those of Ramon y Cajal, which is the most extensive of all the streets that will see their lighting renewed, since it is 126 points of light in two heights , about 8 meters and others to 4.

These lanterns presented oxidation problems caused, in most cases, by the urine of the dogs and also by the rain. The new lighting will be with LED technology and will have a reinforcement at the base of the lamp to precisely avoid oxidations and thus get them to last longer.

"The three objectives that move us to change these points of light are: improve the lighting of the city, provide greater security light structures and because it means an energy saving of 70% compared to the current system," explains the mayor of Espais Públics , José Luis Martín (PP).

On the other hand, Espais Públics has replaced the 219 mercury vapor lamps of Cala Romana. "Gradually we are changing this obsolete technology for less consuming and more environmentally friendly points of light," says Martín.
